Mount Vernon Museum & Education Center

USA’s team was invited to support the design development, fabrication and installation of key interactive exhibits and scenic vignettes for the new Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center at Mt. Vernon, George Washington’s magnificent estate.

HISTORIC ACCURACY

One of our greatest fabrication challenges was the full-size recreation of seine fishing for Blueback herring in the Potomac River. These herring are now extremely rare, but at the time were very plentiful. Historical accuracy and realism in the attire of the fisherman and the execution of the boat, seine net and the fish were very important to the client. The result was a school of fish which appeared to swim rhythmically against the current while trying to escape capture in the net. The client even got to spend time in our shop placing individual fish to their liking.
